Why Root Bridge

The Genesis of Root Bridge, the advocate of thoughtful travel, was a dream of some ardent travelers who happen to be also writers, businessmen, tourism specialists and friends. The ones who fell in  love with  North East India and Eastern Himalayas. The name Root Bridge is taken from the great living Root Bridges of Meghalaya. Living Root Bridges are architectural wonders of the world, handmade by the Khasi and Jaintia peoples of the mountainous terrain along the southern part of the Shillong Plateau, using the aerial roots of trees. The malleable tree roots are made to grow through betel tree trunks which have been placed across rivers and streams until the figs’ roots attach themselves to the other side. This process can take many years to complete. Indeed, creating these living bridges is basically undertaken as a gift for the next generation. Those who actually started making a root bridge may not have crossed that bridge in his or her life.

We also believe in the concept and wanted to create a noble way of thoughtful travel that extends across generations. And moreover as traveling – it creates a Root Bridge between people.

Amazing story tellers

One would experience the destination as a local- the way Root Bridge envisages travel. Root Bridge’s way of travel evolves with unique story telling. Root Bridge is the specialist of the North East and the travel evangelists of Root Bridge will unfold the unending stories of this land of diversities for each traveler.

North East is a land of wonders with over 200 charming tribal communities, the descendants of the erstwhile head hunters, with reminiscences of the Second World War – stories that enrich one’s travel experience much more than merely seeing landscapes would do.

Root Bridge  also associates with trained local story tellers who are capable of touching hearts and enlightening us with their wisdom. Each trip will make a new person of the traveler. The amazing story tellers and travel evangelists of Root Bridge will make your North East or Eastern Himalayan trip, a memorable one, distinctive from any you have undertaken before. They will be the true root bridges between you and the local people.

Noble Cause

Root Bridge and the Community

We believe that the benefits of tourism development should be shared with the host community in all our destinations. That’s why Root Bridge’s tourism initiatives and well curated trips are all designed in such a way that the local communities are benefitted, which provides a never-before experience to the guests as well.

For instance, Root Bridge envisages community based tourism in Deepor Beel, a lake home for thousands of migratory birds. This trip mainly focuses on the protection of this ecologically fragile wetland under the Ramsar Convention. By being a guest of Root Bridge, one would be contributing to this noble cause. Each and every journey will be equally meaningful and will contribute something to the host community and will keep the green protocol of good travel.  We would like to request our guest and well-wishers to support this endeavor by spreading the word or even being a volunteer for another project.

How we do this?

Quality is not an act; it is a habit- Aristotle.

Root Bridge is investing time and money on ensuring a quality experience. It may sound like a cliché, but Root Bridge promises that “we don’t sell packages, we don’t go in for offers. We sell experiences”. Every trip under Root Bridge is planned after a detailed research and field study. The travel evangelists of Root Bridge visit each and every place that have a mention in the travel itinerary and experience it personally.. Root Bridge has spent many days in Mayong, the village known as the land of black magic.  Root Bridge leisurely walked on the banks of mighty Brahamputra as the sun sets with unearthly splendour in Majuli. Root Bridge has tasted the best Roohu fish from that remote Mishing hamlet, we have personally checked each and every home stay and hotel before offering them to our guests. All the members of Root Bridge team are rich with experience and ready to share it with you. This is our testimonial.
